Playstation Motion Controllers

Playstation Move is game controller that comes with motion sensing for adding a new kind of interactivity for the playstation 3 game console. It was released by the Sony Computer Entertainment. It tracks the motion of the hand based on a handheld motion controller wand. PlayStation Eye camera along with inertial sensors helps to track the accurate position of the controller wand. The playstation move hardware kit includes a motion controller, a navigation controller and an additional charging station. The playstation move’s hardware uses Bluetooth 2.0 wireless communication for intercommunication. The maximum number of playstation move controllers used at the same time is four. The controller has an orb at the head which glows in a particular color that can be detected by the playstation Eye camera. The glowing orb will be of spherical in shape. This helps the playstation move to distinguish the orb from other background elements in the environment. Image processing techniques are used to detect the motion of the orb in a two dimensional plane from perspective of the playstation Eye camera. Also the radius of the orb is detected from which a three dimensional movement of the orb is tracked with a great accuracy. The image processing in the playstation is executed with a Cell Microprocessor. Apart from being marker and a reference for the motion tracking process, the orb also provides visual feedback to the users such as a muscle flash. The navigation controller is wonderful supplementary hardware that can be used in combination with the playstation move controller to provide an awesome experience for some specific types of games. Another important additional accessory is the playstation move shooting attachment which can be used as a hand gun for certain action oriented combat games. The controller can be attached with the shooting attachment to act as a gun.
